Nothing warms up a training session like an icebreaker; it can put people at ease and make them receptive to participation. When placed in a new or unfamiliar environment, people tend to exhibit barriers to interaction. As the name implies, icebreakers help to shatter frozen moments so groups can experience a warm and welcoming environment.
MAKE IT RELATIONAL
Icebreakers encourage people to get to know one another, which is crucial for team building. You would be surprised how something as simple as discussing your favorite film or food can open up conversation, make connections, and lead to better collaboration during training.
MAKE IT FUN
Fun is key to relieving stress and putting people in the right frame of mind to enjoy a training event. Most people in Awana are people persons and they place a high value on the principle of fun and excitement. Take advantage of this by creating fun activities that get your training sessions off to the right start and, at the same time, relieve any stress people may be feeling.
MAKE IT CREATIVE
Need some help? There are tons of books that can give you great examples of icebreakers or do a Google search. You may find the following site helpful: www.ccfdl.org/ministry.php?id=32. So even if it is cold outside, conquer the chill by warming up your events with icebreakers.
