What are the implications for Awana for our increasingly non-reading world? This is a question some of our headquarters staff have been wrestling with for some time. Consider the article below and be in prayer for the implications in your training materials.
Because today's students are living in a multimedia world, reading for pleasure has taken a back seat to interactive, computer-mediated experiences that typically don't include much reading. In fact, nearly half of all Americans ages 18–24 read zero books for pleasure, and 65 percent of college freshmen read for pleasure an hour or less a week. Likewise, less than one-third of 13-year-olds are daily readers, and Americans ages 15–25 spend an average of 120 minutes watching TV and 7 minutes reading for pleasure a day
