Tau Chapter Scholarship Thank You

Post date: Sep 7, 2016 4:35:44 PM

Please take a moment to read a thank you note from student Scarlet Levine, who received the Tau Chapter scholarship for the Fall 2016 semester. The Tau Chapter scholarship is largely funded by chapter members. Members can make a donation to the scholarship fund at any time through UMUC's online giving form, which is available here: https://securelb.imodules.com/s/710/NoRtColLegacy.aspx?sid=710&gid=1&pgid=483&cid=1324. On the form, members should put "Alpha Sigma Lambda Tau Chapter Scholarship" in the Other box to designate the donation for our scholarship.

I would like to thank you and everyone else involved very much for awarding me with the Alpha Sigma Lambda (ASL) Tau Chapter scholarship for the Fall 2016 Term at the University of Maryland University College. Because of generous individuals such as you, people like me have the chance to continue their academic journey. Scholarships such as this lift the uncertainty of affordability and the stress the financial burden the high cost of a college education can place on individuals seeking to provide a better life for their families.

When I received my reward letter I jumped for joy and had many emotions running through my head. I am a 36-year-old mother of three, with a husband that has the tendency to be gone more than home in service to this wonderful country. Everyone around me thought I was crazy for starting my college career so late in life and with so much going on. I ignored the critics and pushed even harder to prove I deserved the chances I have been given. I turned the negative statements into my need and drive to be the best version of myself and it has worked out wonderfully. I am now in my 3rd year at UMUC and continue to maintain a 4.00 GPA, volunteer, take care of my children’s needs and activities, and support my husband and his career.

Once again I am truly appreciative to generous directors, donors, and volunteers like you all that make these scholarships possible. Your efforts do not go unnoticed by those that are on the receiving end.

Sincerely,

Scarlet A. Levine
