Tau Chapter Scholarship Information

The information below is specifically about the local ASL- Tau Chapter Scholarship. There are also national scholarships that members can apply for- information on those are emailed by both the national home office and by the Chapter Councilor early in the spring semester. Both scholarships are competitive.

The Tau Chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society offers a scholarship for select UMGC students.   The Alpha Sigma Lambda Tau Chapter Scholarship is awarded once a year, and the number of recipients is dependent on the funds available. The scholarship is competitive, not every student who is eligible can receive it.  Recipients are chosen during the summer and the funds are awarded in the sequential school year, beginning in the fall. The scholarship is applied directly to a student’s account, and is meant to be used towards tuition and fees. This chapter scholarship can be applied to either undergraduate and graduate level work.

Review Process

Applications are reviewed by the Alpha Sigma Lambda Tau Chapter Scholarship Committee in the summer. Applications are scored by strength of essay- for the essay, committee members will be looking for a discussion on scholarship and leadership. Financial need, GPA, and credits completed may also be considered in the review process.

Information for students who qualify for other UMGC scholarships

The scholarship is considered a University endowed foundation scholarship.  Students who are being awarded other scholarships may not be eligible to be given the Tau Chapter scholarship in addition to their other scholarships due to Financial Aid guidelines.
