Tau Chapter Scholarship: Thanks from the recipients and donation information

With the Thanksgiving holiday coming up in a couple weeks, many people take this time to think about what they have and what they are thankful for. I know I have said this before, but I am thankful for the great group of students that comprise of the Tau Chapter's membership. I think this society, focused on adult students, is a perfect way to recognize UMUC students who achieve excellence. In return many members affect the lives of other students by participating in the Allies Mentoring Program and/or by donating funds to the Tau Chapter Scholarship.

I have a few scholarship recipients from the past year who also want to send on their thanks to the membership:

"Thank you very much! I cannot believe that I was selected. I have been able to continue my education and proud to be graduated from UMUC after the Spring semester. Without your help and Alpha Sigma Lambda Chapter's support, i could not even be close to the graduation. Thank you so much.

I will try my best for those whom could not receive the scholarship." - Wakana Takahashi, UMUC Asia

"Words cannot explain my gratitude and surprise upon receiving the Alpha Sigma Lambda Tau Chapter Scholarship! When I received the email, the first thing that came to mind was, “Wow! This absolutely could not have come at a better time!” I just recently got out of the military, and it was to my surprise that due to my change from active duty to civilian life, I would now be charged out-of-state tuition to continue going to school at UMUC. I have loved going to school at UMUC, and I want to finish out my degree here! When I received this scholarship, I was reminded as to why I love this school so much. It has been great to me- offering many opportunities to receive scholarships along with extra programs. This scholarship has helped me out immensely! In this transition phase of my life, any extra money towards school is a great help. I am so honored to have been chosen for the scholarship, and the money will be put to great use!" - Alex Messbarger, UMUC Stateside

"I want to express my deep appreciation for my recent Tau Chapter award. I am proud to be an ASL member, and always strive to embody its codes regarding personal and academic excellence. That the chapter has deemed my efforts worthy of recognition is extremely gratifying. As we all know, a college education is a great financial commitment, and this scholarship will facilitate the imminent completion of my degree. Then, I will be better able to achieve my personal goal of helping others improve their English proficiency and appreciation of literature." - Kathi Caputo, UMUC Stateside

"I was very excited to receive the email informing me that I received the ASL scholarship. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you very much. I am truly humbled and grateful for this opportunity. This scholarship will greatly help to ease the financial burden of tuition and other fees. It has also given me an extreme jump to my self-confidence and determination to complete the semester to the best of my ability. I thank you again, and I truly look forward to the day when I am able to contribute to allow future students to receive such a financial blessing that I have received." - Philippe Ki, UMUC Stateside

Our chapter used to do a scholarship drive along with our annual membership drive every February. Since we have discontinued the annual membership fees, we no longer collect money for the scholarship. Instead, I encourage you to donate to the Tau Chapter Scholarship fund directly. You can do this through the online form here: UMUC's Secure Online Giving Form. To donate to our fund, select the option, "I want to support scholarships and/or program initiatives. Select this option to see a list of choices," then select "Other." In the box, type in "Alpha Sigma Lambda Tau Chapter Scholarship Fund." Every small amount helps!
