Objectives of the Research Project

TRAILS is a two-year European Project on Teaching Languages for Specific Purposes (LSP) in the EHEA (project no. 2018-1-FR01-KA203-048085) under the KA203 action funded by the European Union.

TRAILs addresses the issue of teacher education and skills development to promote high quality and innovative teaching in the field of Language for Specific Purposes (LSP).

The starting point of the project is the fact that most higher education teachers involved in the LSP field have received little or no specific training, which is a matter of particular concern for teachers and learners of LSP in VET institutions where language skills are expected to enhance mobility and employability.

The 8 partners involved are contributing to the design of new LSP teacher training programmes that will be offered at European higher education institutions, on a transnational collaborative basis because the problems identified cannot be dealt with on a regional basis only. Implementation of the programme will take place in October 2020 during the LSP teacher training summer school in Zagreb

Objectives of the Bergamo Unit

National Investigator: prof. Stefania M. Maci

Other members of the Bergamo Unit: prof. Michele Sala, prof. Patrizia Anesa and prof. Cinzia G. Spinzi, who are all members of CERLIS.

Under prof. Maci’s coordination, the University of Bergamo Unit will investigate how domain-specific knowledge is mediated, negotiated and taught in various specialized communicative environments and thus help develop language teaching, high competences and new literacies from a pedagogical angle.
