On Sunday, March 11, 2012 around noon members of the Japanese Community in Tallahassee and Asian Coalition of Tallahassee gathered in Lake Elberta Park for planting Yoshino Japanese Cherry trees. The ceremony involved planting fourteen (14) trees in memory of those who passed away one year ago during the disasters in Japan: the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami.

Several members remembered the people who lost their lives on that day and started to plant trees until all the fourteen trees were planted. The city of Tallahassee helped in selecting the place and helped in breaking the ground.
