I am originally from the southeastern state of India known as Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu or Tamilnad  state (தமிழ்நாடு; country of Tamil speaking people) is formerly known as the Madras state (during British Raj and after Indian Independence). Tamil (தமிழ்) is an ancient language of the Indian sub-continent and belongs to the Dravidian branch. Its origin is different from Sanskrit which belongs to the Indo-Iranian-Germanic branch. 

Our immediate ancestors are from Thanjavur district (aka, Tanjore; the rice bowl of India) of Tamil Nadu. My ancestors came to Thanjavur district as book-keepers for the Vedharaniyeswarar Temple in Vedaraniam (வேதாரண்யம்) also known as, Thirumaraikkadu (திருமறைக்காடு). Prior to moving to Vedaraniam (alternate spellings: Vedharanyam, Vedharaniyam) our ancestors (Saiva Vellalars; சைவ வேளாளர்;Shaiva Vellalla) were from the Ramanatha Puram district in central Tamil Nadu. 

In India I lived and studied in Vedaraniam, Thirukkattu Palli, Poondi, and Chennai. Later I lived in Bangalore, Karnataka state and Hyderabad, Andra Pradesh state. Then I moved to the United States of America in late eighties and have lived in the northeastern state of Massachusetts and now live in the southeastern state of Florida. I now work at Florida State University as a structural biologist. Bhanu is from Chennai (aka Madras). She has studied in Chennai and Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu and worked in Chennai, India. Now she works as a Library Information Specialist at Leon County Public Library.
