Saint George Island, FL 32328

Mon, Jul 3, 2017

We visited the Saint George Island, FL almost dozen years and after the devastating Hurricane Katrina damaged it in 2005. We used to visit the island and the state park more often until 2004. we noticed that many things have changed in the island, including the newly built (2007) lighthouse. More businesses have come up and all the beach front properties have been restored and more added. The roads leading to the island and to the state park looked good and restored.

Front entrance to the Julian Bruce Saint George Island State Park. It is such a treasure! The entrance fee to the park by a vehicle with several people is still $6. We paid the fee and donated more money to the park. Then went to the last of the two Park Use Areas called Sugar Mill Beach Use Area where there are places to eat food (covered pavilion), bathrooms, fresh water showers and swimming area. We ate some snacks and went swimming.

After several minutes of swimming, it was time to relax in the hot sun! Even though it was in the mid-nineties (F) in temperature, the breeze started in the afternoon and the tides started to pick up.

Then, late in the evening we drove out of the park. I climbed the new lighthouse and the family shopped in the Saint George Island Trading Company. We arrived home early evening driving via US-319 and US-98.
