shows a graphic visualisation that the sound should be playing ...... but alas it is not ..... not sure what to do next .... ?

But I know that Linux will and can use this audio ..... as it works in Ubuntu Intrepid and in Jaunty ......

Are there any files I can copy across or display here to help .......... ?

Have just run

alsaconf ...... seemed to run ok ..... going to reboot ..... see if that is what is needed.

I still have no sound !!! after a re-boot ...... any suggestions are welcome .......

I am learning .... always ..... is it something stupid that I have not done here .......

Is there an easy way to get the sound working across to Elive ..... ?

From Ubuntu 9.04 .....

__________________________________________________________

Sound

For some reason having problems in Elive Debian ..

So solution = get the files from Ubuntu and put them into Debian.

How ?

What is the sound driver ?

ALC888 according to the Ubuntu sound system settings

Ok I found a web pointer to /proc/asound

___________________________________________________________________________________

Still no good yet ....... struggling to get sound for Elive to work ......... I am sure it will eventually work ......

What if I point it to the Ubuntu repositories ..... and try apt-get = just for ALSA files ,,,,, can't be that different .......

Then dissable the repository after use ...... so I do not pick up wrong versions and get a miss-matched system !!!!

So which repository do I use ?

Jaunty or Intrepid ..... in both the sound works ..... possibly a closer match to use Intrepid !!! only guessing here ....

Oh the heck !!! ..... will use Jaunty ..... whats to lose ..... if it all falls in a heap just re-install the latest Elive download .... in another partition ......

Which repositories ? lets see what we currently use ...... for Jaunty ........

OK back to Elive then ...... see if I can do a apt-get update ..... see what errors we get ...... is this wise its running so well

other than for the sound ..... !!! ,,,,,, can I try it on a different partition without losing my settings for the original ...

I am worried about losing the boot loader ....... for Ubuntu etc .... it usually updates ok and gets all the menu options .....

Trust it ....... load to MBR of first drive ..... what about UBUNTU ? ......... not worth the risk ,,,,, could lose 3 systems here,

Just update repositories on Elive and go from there ....... if I lose Elive or screw it up then we think about altering grub and re-installing Elive afresh ......

______________________________________________________________________________________

If anybody is wondering why I do this like this my own memory is not too good (I am getting old) and this way I can swap into any version of linux and get all the info I need to complete the job in hand ...........

I have not failed to get a sytem working as I want it yet ......... fingers crossed ..... and all that ..... ;)

All the information and files exist ..... its just getting them to work together that matters .......

gpg --keyserver hkp://subkeys.pgp.net --recv-keys 40976EAF437D05B5

gpg --export --armor 40976EAF437D05B5 | sudo apt-key add -

__________________________________________________________________________________________

Still no Luck ........ ;( ........... yet all looks ok ...... This is annoying me now ...... have no idea why ......

I need more information on this subject ....... what causes the sound to come out of the speakers ...... tiny electrical impulses .....

So why are they not getting to their destination ...... they get to the application its showing the bars moving .....

so why will it not make the sound chip work ..... and send the info to the speakers ..... whats the Head on here that will not alter ?
