Sony VAIO VPCP11S1E

Installation of Fedora 17 (alpha) on Sony VAIO P (VPCP11S1E) (March 2012)

Graphics

With gma500_gfx driver built in kernel 3.3, the graphical installation worked out of the box, with full resolution.

Half Screen Problem

However, after the installation, in runlevel 5, only the top half screen was displayed. (Although in runlevel 3 with startx, the whole screen was used.)

What helped here was to comment out the line in /etc/kde/kdm (I am using KDE):

# ServerArgsLocal=-background none -nolisten tcp

Backlight Brightness

The function keys worked (the bar showed up and changed) but it had no effect on the backlight brightness, although I had added acpi_osi=Linux acpi_background=vendor to the grub linux command line. However, the following command works (sets the brightness to minimum):

echo 0 > /sys/class/backlight/psb-bl/brightness

Graphics Issues

    • The refresh rate seems to be wrong - the screen shivers a little

    • The screen blanks for a second or two from time to time

Sound

I had to add me (the user) to the group audio. Apart from that, sound (and also mike) worked out of the box, as well as the function keys for setting the volume.

Web Camera

Worked out of the box.

Wi-Fi

Worked out of the box.

Suspend/Resume

Does not work yet. Hibernation works, though.
