How might we make empathy circles fun and engaging for high school students?

Interview of pre-teen:

Lee-Anne: What was it like for you to participate in Empathy Circles?

Zoe: Very boring because it has really… it does not have a point to me. I think that maybe it will help other people, but it’s just not for me.

Lee-Anne: Why is it not for you?

Zoe: Because I am not a very empathic person. It’s not for me. I am an empathic person, just not in that empathic state.

Lee-Anne:Would you recommend it to others your age?

Zoe: No, I would not.

Lee-Anne: Why/why not?

Zoe: I don’t think people my age would enjoy it?

Lee-Anne: What would make the EC more interesting, enjoyable, or fun for you?

Zoe: That there would be games involved, and not all about talking back and forth.

Lee-Anne: Would celebrating failures make it fun?

Zoe: no.
