IDEO Design Kit
(7 Week)
Design Kit: Acumen/IDEO - Human-Centered Design Course
We are forming facilitated teams to take the Human-Centered Design Course. This is a 7 week course, however, since we are doing our own design challenge it takes longer and we will go for 10 weeks. There are;
4 to 6 people per team.
10 week commitment.
5+ hours per week time commitment.
(3 hour weekly meetings)
(2+ hours readings, research, etc.)
This course is facilitated by Edwin Rutsch who has lead many design teams through the course.
An experienced facilitator to guide you through the course online. Edwin Rutsch is founding director of the Center for Building a Culture of Empathy and is a world expert on empathy. We will take a deep dive into the mindset and the skill of empathy.
We will use Mural.ly as the online work, brainstorming, synthesis and collaboration space. Edwin has a professional educators Mural.ly account which we will use for the course. (Mural is usually $29 a month and you will not need to pay this.)
The Design Kit lessons are all ported to the Mural platform so they work in an online format.
All the Google Hangouts meetings spaces, scheduling, reminders, various details, etc. will be taken care of.
We will add extra learnings and practices to the course, like the Team Canvas, learning to use Mural.ly, empathy maps, empathy exercises, etc.
We will be doing our own custom design challenge which is initially,
How might we design the empathy circle process?
Not only will you learn about the design process and mindset, you will also do a deep dive into how to deepen your empathy skills, which are a prerequisite to being a better designer and human being for that matter.
