Minnesota Quality Deer Management

I liked this readers responce to QDM (Quality Deer Management) in Minnesota from the Star Tribune.

This may sound too simple...

The mature (bucks 3 plus years) after the rut meeting winter head on may not have the reserves to survive winter. We have feeders we fill post season that we can dump about 400LBS in and we draw about 40-50 deer for 4 square miles. The feed is enough for late Nov/December and puts the herd in good shape to survive. There's nice bucks in there as we find antlers every spring. Ask your land-owner If you can try the practice. I think you will see results even after a difficult winter. Get your hunting partners to pass on those two year olds. Because, Wow there's nothing like having a 6-7 year old 240LB Boy ambling down your trail.
