Initial Altitudes

As with VFR aircraft, initial altitudes will be based on the aircraft type per the P80-PDX LOA.

• NOISE SENSITIVE AIRCRAFT – Turboprops and props with a maximum takeoff weight greater than 12,500 pounds, excluding Beechcraft King Airs.

• NON-NOISE SENSITIVE AIRCRAFT – Turboprops and props with a maximum takeoff weight less than 12,500 pounds, including Beechcraft King Airs.

Use the table below from the P80-PDX LOA to assign initial altitudes for IFR departures. The departure instructions column will be issued by Local.

There are also special cases per the P80-PDX LOA:

• All aircraft with a destination of KSLE should be assigned 5000 ft.

• Southbound aircraft exiting P80 between headings of 145-235 filed 15,000 or below should be at an odd altitude (see LOA attachment 5)

• For aircraft requesting VFR on top, assign an initial IFR altitude and advise the pilot to expect VFR on top 5 minutes after departure.
