About Ms. Jones

Hello Brilliant Scholars!

My name is Ms. Jones and I am your 6th grade ELA teacher. I have been teaching at Young Scholars for 3 years. I was born, raised, and educated in Philly, so I love being able to pour that same education back into the community that grew me! I attended CAPA for high school, received my BA in Africology and African-American Studies at Temple University, and my Masters in Teaching from Relay Graduate School of Education. My hobbies are watching anime, reading Black science fiction books, tending to my MANY plants, writing poetry, singing, and collecting headwraps.

My favorite quote is "We have to talk about liberating minds as well as liberating society." -Angela Davis

Keeping this quote in mind, I hope to provide an affirming and liberatory ELA education for ALL my students.

I just finished reading: "An Unkindness of Ghosts"- Rivers Solomon

I'm currently reading: "Root Magic"- Eden Royce

Next I'll be reading: "Black Boy Joy"- Kwame Mbalia, et all
