In art class, we will talk about why art is created and why it is preserved. We will question how museums acquire art and how artists can convey important messages through their work.
By the end of this course, we will be able to thoughtfully talk and write about both our own art and the art we view around us.
We will build skills in artmaking by learning about the elements of art and by using different art media with an emphasis on drawing. We will learn that practice is key in learning any skill!
A peek into art class:
We start every class with a “Do Now” worksheet.
After the Do Now, we take a brain break or stretch break!
Lecture time! We spend time learning about history, an artist, or an art topic every class.
Lecture time is followed either by another break or a group discussion/mini activity.
Independent work time is the most important part of art class. This is when students work on their big projects
Clean up time!
We end almost every class with an “Exit Ticket”. This is a worksheet where students recap what they learned in that class.
Grading
Students are assessed in the following manner:
· Projects 30%
· Mini Projects 20%
· Classwork 20%
