This class is designed to improve your math skills by deepening foundational math concepts and developing a flexible approach to solving real-world problems using math. We will be using a curriculum this year called Open Up Resources. This curriculum introduces new concepts through exploration, which helps students to build and maintain their foundational skills. We will be covering a range of topics such as proportional relationships, rational numbers , creating equations and inequalities through this year. Through this class students will learn the basic building blocks of math to be successful in higher level math classes such as Algebra in High School.
Units:
1. Scale Drawings
2. Introducing Proportional Relationships
3. Measuring Circles
4. Proportional Relationships and Percentages
5. Rational Number Arithmetic
6. Expressions, Equations, and Inequalities
7. Angles, Triangles, and Prisms
8. Probability and Sampling
9. Putting it all together
Class room tenets: Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe.
Standard Procedure: I expect you to be seated and ready to learn at the start of class. Likewise, you should expect me to be ready.
Required Materials: Pencil and Math Binder Just for math,
Course Content; This course’s content will closely align to the foundational skills necessary for succeeding in 7th grade mathematics. There will be an additional focus on expanding mathematical thinking to real-world problems.
Grade Components:
● Classwork - Dailly grade for completion and effort (25%)
● Participation - Dailly grade for active and positive participation (25%) ● Technology - Use of online tools (IXL, Study Island, iReady etc.) (10%)

“The quality of the choices you make today will dictate the quality of your opportunities tomorrow.”
Late Work: All late assignments will be awarded at least 50% credit if the assignment is turned in no later than 1 days late. It is your responsibility to hand in your late work, I may not ask for it.
Extra Credit: No extra credit assignments will be given.
Consequences: I will make my expectations very clear and all students are expected to follow them. My expectations were created to produce a productive learning environment where every student can learn. I will give one and only one warning before I start deducting points from your paycheck. If a student continues to not follow directions, a call home will be made with other disciplinary actions as the school sees fit.
