Course Description: Students in eighth grade math will build on algebraic concepts introduced earlier in middle school to prepare students for success in high school mathematics and beyond. In addition, students will increase mathematical knowledge and understanding with a focus on problem solving, real world applications, and cooperative learning. Students will continue to use their knowledge of proportional relationships to further analyze linear relationships. They will use slope and y-intercept to identify relationships between two sets of data and come up with solutions to real world problems. Students will also learn to use scientific notation to describe populations as well as apply their knowledge to current events. Students will also continue to build on their algebraic knowledge to solve multi-step equations and solve for the unknown variables.
We will be using a curriculum called Open Up Resources. This curriculum introduces new concepts through exploration, which helps students to build and maintain their foundational skills. Students and parents can access the curriculum at: https://openupresources.org/math-curriculum/
