Universal Waste

Universal Waste is a program run by Yale Environmental Health & Safety in partnership with Take 2. Through this program, it is possible to recycle and dispose of computers, fax machines, phones, pagers, printers, or other electronic equipment used to store or transfer information or used for entertainment purposes—which count as Universal Waste under the definition set by the State of Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection.

How to Dispose of Universal Waste

If you have only a few items that you need to discard, please take them to the electronics recycling bin. The electronics bin is a large cardboard bin across the parking lot of Wright Lab near the elevators on the ground floor of Bass Science Building (the closest red brick building to the Wright Lab entrance).

The bin gets picked through and scavenged, so please make sure not to keep any sensitive information on any disks before disposal to avoid security concerns.

If you have many items to discard, are unable to remove sensitive information on hard drives, or have obsolete electronics to be picked up, please use the following link to schedule a pick up of your items. Also make sure to print out and attach a tag to the things you want taken away. A print out of the tag is also available on the website below:
