What is Google Meet?
Google Meet is a video-conferencing application created by Google. It is essentially Google's version of Zoom and works in exactly the same way as Zoom, just with a few slightly different features. It is the new app that has replaced Google Hangouts, if you had come across this before.
The biggest advantage that I can see (for teacher and student clarity & communication) is that a 'Meet Link' can be automatically generated within your Google Classroom banner and that link remains the same for each and every lesson that you teach online. You do not have to create a new meeting link for each and every lesson, as you do with Zoom. Once shown, students will be able to click on the same link, in the same place, at the same times each week. The only downside appears to be that at the moment you cannot see your students at the same time as presenting your slide show. However, if they do not have their cameras turned on then this might not be too much of an issue at all. Due to demand, I predict that Google will add this feature within the coming months, but there are a few different ways that you can get around it anyway in the meantime - I will post these below.
