Edpuzzle is an online video editing tool that allows teachers and learning providers to edit videos with questions to check student understanding.
The platform allows you to upload your own videos to be edited or you can use existing YouTube videos and add questions and information points for your learners to look at.
All you need to do is log in with your college Google account and get started.
It’s a really simple and easy tool to use:
Find a video or create a video
Use Edpuzzle to add questions directly onto the video for them to answer
Assign the video as a task or lesson for the learners to complete.
Bonus: Edpuzzle videos can be directly shared to your Google Classroom so no need to copy and paste or do anything too techy!
There are essentially two different ways to use Edpuzzle but they provide the same results:
Uploading your own Video to edit
Using a YouTube video to edit.
With Edpuzzle, you can either record directly from their own platform or upload a video you have created - to do this you will need to press the blue ‘Add Content’ button in the top right corner.
Once you click on this, you are given four options:
Discover video content - View uploaded video content by other teachers and professionals who use Edpuzzle
Upload Video - Upload a video you have previously created to Edpuzzle
Record Video - Record a video directly from Edpuzzle and add content.
Student Project - Allows you to set students a stream of work by using multiple videos for them to go through
To be able to record your own, you’ll need to download the Edpuzzle Chrome Extension - once this has been installed, it will give you the option to start recording!
The interface for Edpuzzle is very similar to Google Meet or Microsoft Teams where you can share a certain tab on your computer, your whole desktop or just what is on the camera you are using.
Once you have started the recording, you will be given a taskbar to stop, play or delete the recording.
With Edpuzzle, you can edit YouTube videos to cut out certain shots or add questions directly onto the video.
To do this, you go onto your chosen YouTube video and there will a yellow button with ‘Edit with Edpuzzle’.
Once this button is clicked, you will be taken to a new tab with the option to cut any part of the video and add questions to it.
You can then share this video to your students as an asynchronous lesson!
To be able to share your video lesson to your students, you can import your classes directly from Google Classroom!
When you are on the Edpuzzle dashboard, on the left hand side you will see the option to import your classes.
To import your classes from Google Classroom, click on the Google prompt and it will give you a checklist of all the classes you have. Once linked, you can start assigning your students your videos you’ve created or the YouTube videos you’ve edited!
