LAWS PROGRAM - for Exceptional Needs Students

LAWS stands for:

  • Life Skills

  • Academic Skills

  • Workplace Readiness, and

  • Social Thinking and Communication Skills

The LAWS Program is a three year, multifaceted program for students with exceptional needs. Students are fully included in options courses provided through LCHS, in addition to receiving instruction tailor made to their needs to develop Literacy and Numeracy skills in a practical, Life Skills focused manner. All activities are geared towards generating greater confidence and independence for the student while instilling an enjoyment for learning and trying new things.

Upon completion of the LAWS Program, a student will receive a Certificate of Completion at the LCHS Commencement Ceremonies.

KNOWLEDGE & EMPLOYABILITY PROGRAM

The Knowledge and Employability Program is intended to provide students with opportunities to experience success in school, and to become well prepared for employment, further studies, active citizenship and lifelong learning.

Knowledge and Employability courses include:

    • Humanities 10-4 (English 10-4 and Social Studies 10-4)

    • Humanities 20-4 (English 20-4 and Social Studies 20-4)

    • Math 10-4, Math 20-4

    • English 30-4

    • Science 14/24

The program promotes:

  • Workplace standards for academic, occupational and employability skills.

  • Practical application of skills presented.

  • Career development skills.

  • Interpersonal skill development.

Upon completion of three years of high school, a student may receive a Certificate of Completion (if credits are not earned), or a Knowledge and Employability Certificate of Achievement (if 80 credits are earned in approved courses).

Some students may transition successfully from Knowledge and Employability courses into other courses in order to achieve the requirements of obtaining an Alberta High School Diploma at the discretion of school Administration.

Entry into this program is determined by past programming and feedback from student’s feeder school.
