Green Certificate Courses [1.0 block each year]
Each of these courses is a two year commitment and is a joint venture between Olds College, Alberta Agriculture and Lacombe Composite High School. Students may take two Green Certificate course with permission.
Each course has the potential to earn 16 Green Certificate credits (over the 2 years) and 4+ CTS Credits. There is a $30 non-refundable course fee for consumables. The courses run over two semesters and the marks can be used for grade 12 scholarships such as the Rutherford Scholarship. There are no prerequisite courses for the Green Certificate or AP Seminar courses.

AGRICULTURE [0.5 blocks]
The Agriculture course will cover one quarter (PERIOD X, Y or Z) of the Greenhouse Technician program to allow students an opportunity to try out the farm apprenticeship-style training program.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT NATURE SEMINAR [0.5 blocks]
AP Nature Seminar is an independent study program that runs in conjunction with the Green Certificate Program, EcoVision Environmental Leadership Program and Social Studies 20. The program offers a Social Sciences Credit at all of Canada’s major Universities. Students that choose to take AP Nature Seminar instead of the three CTS Credits will be given time to work on their AP Nature Seminar course outcomes during the last quarter of the Green Certificate Classes. AP Seminar is a foundational course that engages students in cross-curricular conversations that explore the complexities of academic and real-world topics and issues by analyzing divergent perspectives. Using an inquiry framework, students practice reading and analyzing articles, research studies, and foundational, literary, and philosophical texts; listening to and viewing speeches, broadcasts, and personal accounts; and experiencing artistic works and performances. Students learn to synthesize information from multiple sources, develop their own perspectives in written essays, and design and deliver oral and visual presentations, both individually and as part of a team. Ultimately, the course aims to equip students with the power to analyze and evaluate information with accuracy and precision in order to craft and communicate evidence-based arguments.[Sample Course Outline]
