In general, 3 credit classes equal 0.5 blocks of time in the timetable and 5 credit classes equal 1.0 blocks of time in the timetable.  Grade 10 and 11 students are expected to have a full timetable (no spares), 8.0 blocks.

HEALTH & WELLNESS

Health and Wellness 105 credits [1.0 blocks]

This class combines learning outcomes from Physical Education, CALM, Health Services Foundations, Nutrition Studies and an opportunity to earn credits in other health related CTS courses. Our goal is to provide the students with an opportunity to personalize their learning and make choices to meet their interests and needs. The aim of this class is to enable individuals to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to lead a personally directed, active and healthy lifestyle. As well, this course will enable students to make well-informed decisions and choices in all aspects of their lives and to develop behaviors that contribute to the well-being and respect of self and others. Courses

Phys. Ed. 10 (required for graduation)

Students will participate in a variety of physical activities (traditional, recreational & leisure) to promote skill development, positive interactions & appreciate the benefits of daily physical activity.

Health Services Foundations HSS 1010

Students will learn concepts and skills related to the determinants of health, the dimensions of wellness, basic principles of anatomy, physiology and disease.

Nutrition and Wellness HSS 1020

Students learn about leader nutrients, what foods they are found in, how such foods affect performance and future health as they participate in healthy food preparation.

Health and Wellness 20/303-8 credits [1.0 blocks]

Grade 11: Students will spend a term in Health & Wellness to complete CALM and earn credits in Phys. Ed 20. They will also have opportunities to complete credits in other health related strands (see below).

Grade 12: For students interested in continuing to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. Students will have the opportunity to receive credits in PE 30, Nutrition and other health related strands. Students will also have the opportunity to complete CALM if needed.

Early Morning Rams Athletics 20/30:  3-5 credits [.5 or 1.0 blocks]

The Early Morning Rams Athletics course will run from 7:05 - 8:30 AM during semester one and be offered to grade 11 and 12 students. This course will have a strong volleyball and basketball focus and will follow the physical education 20-30 curriculum. The physical education 20 or 30 credit breakdown will be as follows: 


Quarter 1 Volleyball Focus - 3 Credits

Quarter 2 Basketball Focus - 3 Credits

Semester 1 Volleyball and Basketball Focus - 5 Credits


It is important to note that students taking the Early Morning Rams Athletics course will need to have their own transportation to the school. 

CALM

CALM 20 outcomes will be available through the Health & Wellness program or students can see Mrs. Yaremchuk, Principal, to take the course via Independent Study.

RAMS HOCKEY ACADEMY

RAMS Hockey Academy 10-15 credits [2.0 blocks]

The RAMS Hockey Academy Program is open to all students who have a passion for hockey, a desire to improve their skills and are committed to becoming the best they can be on the ice, in the gym and in the classroom. If you’re a player, this program is for you!!!

The Academy model will be a full semester program where students will participate in a ½ day of hockey skill development/ Off-Ice Training and General Sport Programming to assist in their playing skills, confidence and overall athletic performance. 

On-Ice Instruction:  RAMS Hockey Academy Students will receive 3.5-4.5 hrs of on-ice instruction weekly with a strong emphasis on individual skill development including the biomechanics of skating, edge work and power transfer through edges, puck  handling, passing and shooting to score as well as developing hockey sense in all areas of the ice. 

Classroom Instruction: Students will receive 3 hrs of classroom instruction weekly.  Classroom instruction will focus on specific single credit, Sports Performance modules to include all aspects of high performance athletic development, mental training, high performance nutrition, performance evaluation and potential opportunities in sport and sports medicine.

Physical Education/Multi-Sport Exposure: Students will have the opportunity to earn Physical Education credits through exposure to multi-sport activities and game-play in a variety of athletic activities 3 times/ week.

Athletic  Development: Student Athletes will receive optimal off-ice training to include specific strength and conditioning drills and movements to improve athletic strength, flexibility and agility required for hockey. Students will participate in Off-Ice training 3-4 times/week.

SPORTS MEDICINE 10

Sports Medicine 103 credits [0.5 blocks]

The purpose of the Sports Medicine course is to provide high school students with an opportunity to learn various facets of sports injuries, first aid care and professions related to sports medicine and injury management.  This course will also include anatomy and physiology and taping modalities.  In addition, Sports Medicine will help students become more familiar with the prevention, care and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.  If you are an elite athlete, weekend warrior or someone who just loves sports and wants to help injured athletes get back to their sport at their maximum potential faster and safer, then Sports Medicine is for you!!  [Sample Course Outline]

Special Note: Each Sports Performance/ Sport Medicine 10 student is expected to complete practicum service hours involving student training duties (taping and dealing with athletic injuries for individual athletes and teams). Students will be required to do 15 hours of training before the end of the semester. 10 of these 15 hours MAY also include score clock duties or minor officiating of extra curricular LCHS high school sports. 


SPORTS PERFORMANCE 

Sports Performance 155 credits [1.0 blocks]

Sports Performance 10 is an introduction to the Sports Performance stream and is open to all students from grade 10-12.  Sports Performance is unlike a traditional Health and Wellness class as this course is specifically geared towards individuals interested in exploring the study of sport sciences, athletic training fields and human performance.  If you are someone who likes to learn about human performance, physical, social and mental development,  working out and training in a supportive yet somewhat competitive environment or want to be the best you can be, this is the course for you!   [Sample Course Outline

Sports Performance 255 credits [1.0 blocks]

Prerequisite: Sports Performance 10

This course is intended to provide for active students who are interested in competitive sports or fields related to human performance and exercise sciences in an atmosphere to grow and develop the knowledge skills and attitudes necessary to understand a variety of factors related to Sports Performance. In this module based course, students will be expected to demonstrate outcomes related to Current Training Principles, Sports Nutrition, Performance Enhancement, The Psychology of Sports and Personal  Development through participation in sports. Sports Performance 20 is geared towards individuals who are driven to be the best they can be.

 

Sports Performance 355 credits [1.0 blocks]

Prerequisite: Sports Performance 20

Sports Performance 30 is a course that completes the Sports Performance Stream. This course focuses on the development of skills necessary for students who are high level athletes or for those who are interested in entering  fields related to sports and kinesiology. Through a combination of theory and practical exposure to areas of sport, students will be expected to demonstrate outcomes as they relate to the study of current training principles, performance enhancement, performance evaluation, sports studies and personal development  through participation in exercise science and sport. This is a high intensity, fun, interactive class that combines classroom theory with high intensity exercise activities. 

Yoga and Relaxation

Yoga and Relaxation3 credits [0.5 blocks] or 5 credits [1.0 blocks]

Prerequisite: Yoga 15 

Yoga and Relaxation 25/35 introduces individuals to fundamental yoga postures, breathing techniques, and relaxation methods. Unlike traditional yoga, it does not incorporate spiritual elements. Instead, it focuses on the health benefits and skill development associated with yoga practice. Participants are encouraged to challenge themselves physically and psychologically in a supportive group environment, fostering self-identity and a sense of belonging. Through yoga practice, students cultivate physical literacy, self-awareness, and the ability to manage stress effectively. Group activities promote communication skills, collaboration, and a sense of community, emphasizing the integration of yoga into a healthy, active lifestyle.
