Meet Finley. Finley is 9 years old and was born in Canada and lived in NZ since he was 2 years old. He has taken keenly to the national sport of his birth nation, ice hockey, after visiting overseas at Christmas.
Finley plays goalie for Auckland Team Iron Man in the AIHA Super League. In his first season he has taken home 2 player of the day awards, posted multiple one goal games and recently had a shutout in a showcase game at Aotea Square. Finley hopes to complete in a national tournament in Christchurch this October.
Finley travels about an hour each way to the arena to train at least once a week and again most Sunday mornings in term to play at either Avondale or Botany.
For Finley, the best part about playing goalie is supporting his team mates in net, learning new skills, having fun, meeting new people, being like his NHL heroes and just being on the ice! The biggest challenge is learning new goalie moves like the butterfly slide.
For a million dreams, more than anything, Finley would love to spend some time training with the goalies/goalie coaches from the Admirals or Botany Swarm (e.g. Csaba Kercso-Magos Jr, Rick Perry).
