Meet Alisa. She started doing gymnastics at the leisure centre in Stanmore Bay when she was 5 years old. Then, when she turned 6 she started at the North Harbour Gymnastics centre. Alisa only started competition gymnastics in her elementary squad last year.
Alisa is always doing gymnastics. She has her own beam, trampoline and bars at home. She practices all the time at school. Last year, Alisa was in the Level 1 squad and trained at her gym 2 hours a week. This year, she has been moved up to level 2 and is training 6 hours a week.
Alisa's achievements include winning a trophy for most improved last year, and she has won 4 medals and 23 ribbons. She came 3rd overall out of 120 girls when she was 8.
Alisa's goal and dream for the future is to go to the Olympics and win gold. Her favourite part of gymnastics is competing in competitions with a team and individually.
She thinks the hardest part about gymnastics is the conditioning. Conditioning is when you have to do heaps of chin ups, sit ups, press ups, leg lifts, planks and rope climbs. She ends up very sore at the end of her sessions.
Alisa has 8 competitions this year all over Auckland and one in Australia at the end of the year.
We wish Alisa the best of luck for her competitions this year!
