Police Rookie

Group 1 & 2

On 6 June and June 25 Senior Constable Bernie Watts from Whangaparaoa Police Station swung by school to collect 8 of our finest new Police recruits ready for their Introduction to Policing 101. The rookies were ready- Lara with her own hat and Lachie with a box of donuts- essential policing food! Yvette got to ride shotgun (pun intended) in the squad car, as did Olivia.

Touring the Whangaparaoa Station was pretty exciting. The rookies got to meet the whole team and try on different items of the uniform, with Levi modelling what can only be described as the world's heaviest vest for the new rookies. Vega, Llewelyn Kris and Yvette even got to take each others fingerprints and help Detective Lucy investigate a stolen credit card that was used to buy treats from a petrol station 3 times!

Soon it was back in the squad car and down to the Orewa Station where the children were treated to a behind the scenes tour, meeting the CIB detectives and checking out some of their cool equipment (including the taser and road spikes of course).

The children checked out the various vehicles in the Police fleet and learned which cars are used for different jobs.

The police had been very busy keeping our local community safe, so the children were unable to see the cells as they were full!

A quick breath test came back clean for the kids and some promotional mug shots advertising the new non-urgent police phone line number 105 were on the agenda too.

Road Spikes

Thank you so much to the teams at both Whangaparaoa and Orewa Stations for inspiring our Rookies . It was an amazing experience they will surely never forget!
