Make Live Give

Four of our keen knitters and socially conscious students got to combine their two loves when they joined Claire Conza and her team of avid knitters at the Whangaparaoa Community Hub. These lovely ladies gather once a week on a Thursday morning to make knitted and crocheted items for a great cause! You can read all about Make Live Give and the great work they are doing improving wellbeing and providing for the needs of people in the community here.

When we had met the team, Claire showed us the range of products through Make Live Give. There we beautiful beanies, crochet starts, adorable onesies and drink bottle holders to name just a few!

Claire shared a video about how Make Live Give started and about how the buy one give one initiative works. She also told us about other great social enterprises that work in a similar way buy creating funds from the sale of items to be able to guarantee their good work can continue without having to rely on community grants for funds to operate.

Claire and her team taught us about sewing using circular needles and helped us to get started making their cutest beanie- Cocobear

Then it was time to knit and knit and knit!

If you would like to knit one Make Live Gives cute beanies yourself you can order a kit here . For every kit that is sold they are able to provide the same amount of yarn to the knitting groups to enable them to make a beanie to keep someone in real need warm this winter.

Thank you to Claire and the Whangaparaoa Make Live Give team for letting us work with you for the morning, for the help you gave us to learn new skills and for inspiration to follow our passions and interests like you do!
