Early Childhood Experience

Phew! Being an Early Childhood Teacher is exhausting, but really, really fun! Our young ECE teachers split into groups and went to work in different areas of the centre. We had a few minutes to get to know the children and get familiar with the centre spaces before it was time to head inside for mat time. The children learned that when you are a teacher you have to model to the children what you would like them to do, including joining in with action songs even when it was a bit embarrassing!

After mat time, it was time to prepare the room for snacks. The Million Dreams trainees helped to wipe down the tables and set out the lunch boxes ready for the children. There were lids that needed opening and spoons to hand out to the the children, and checking to make sure that children with allergies were away from any foods that they might react to.

It was then activity time, so there were tables to set up with puzzles and paint. There was singing and dancing on the mat area to join in with and free play.

The time whizzed by and the Million Dreams Trainees were very sad when it was time to leave.

Thank you Starfish staff. It was a wonderful experience!

GROUP 2 enjoyed their time working with the kids at Starfish too! They found it busy and at times hard work - sweeping the floors and wiping tables after morning tea. One of them said 'I feel like a slave!' Welcome to the world of helping others! They had fun finding activities to set up on tables, helping kids do puzzles, count, build sandcastles, reading, singing etc. And they took time to get to know kids - talking to them and listening to their stories and ideas. For some it was also a nice walk down memory lane, remembering fun times they had a pre-school. Thank you Starfish for having us!
