The sweet smell of sugar greeted our bakers as they arrived at Coast Cakes. The amazing Danielle and Becky were ready for us with so many incredible hands-on experiences for the children to try.
After a safety briefing, the children got straight down to work mixing the batter for their cupcakes. Then it was off to explore the drawers and drawers of tools for creating different effects. There were scrapers and paint brushes, and extruder, glitters and shimmer sprays and embossing rollers! It was neat to see all the different things you can do with icing!
The children played some baking games and set about making tiny icing embellishments using the fondant stamps, ready to decorate their cupcakes with. There were tiny stars, butterflies and leaves, and flowers. We learned a great new tricky to make them dry in the shape we wanted them to be on the cake eg. with the butterflies wings half folding up, by laying them into a foam piece that had dips and ridges like an egg carton.
Once the cupcakes had cooled, the children got to learn how to lad up piping bags and the different styles of piping some of the different nozzles created. The children then mixed up a range of colours and got to work icing their cupcakes. Then it was on with some mermaid sprinkles and their fondant butterflies and flowers. A final spritz of shimmer and hey presto! Some beautiful cupcake creations!
Thank you so much to with wonderful, patient and creative Danielle and Becky at Coast Cakes who made this an unforgettable experience!
