Local artist Ruby Jude works out of her studio and Gallery in Orewa. Teaching children and adults mix media, her passion is to empower others through art and creativity. Six of our keen artists were in for a treat today when they got to work with Ruby Jude for the morning and earn techniques for creating their own journal.
They learned about the process Ruby Jude uses to create her journals and how to create a background to our ideas. The children wrote down what made them special, unique and beautiful. They combined these ideas with the images they had brought from home or looked through box of images and magazines to find pictures that they identified with. The children used water colour crayons and a spray bottle of water to overlay colours over their statements about themselves. Beautiful stencils added layers to their artwork. The children were so immersed in what they were doing that the time flew by. Generously, Ruby Jude and the children's teachers agreed to extend their session by 30 mins to allow them to develop their ideas further.
