House Information Activity
Purpose:The purpose of this assignment is to help students understand the spatial relationships in a house. Determining the actual house size and individual room sizes will help students comprehend “real” room/house size.
What you need to do:
______ Using graph paper, sketch out the house that you live in. - 1 box = 1 ft]______ Single line walls (if you choose to do wall thickness – that is fine)
______ Need to have one page for one floor - include your basement.
______ Interior room labels and dimensions for each room (width x depth)
______ Place all doors on plan with door style/swing. (Measure a couple of doors)
______ Place all windows on the plan (measure width & height of some windows - also sill height/head height)
______ Place your bathroom fixtures on plan and measure from wall to center of toilet.
______ Measure kitchen and locate the appliances.- Measure the distance from the fridge, sink, and stove centers.- Measure the kitchen cabinets (base and wall)- Measure from the floor to the top of the counters
______ Place garage on plan.
______ Place stairs on plan and measure width of stairs. Count the number of steps and measure one of the tread depths.
______ Overall exterior dimensions (will be different sq. ft. when compared to adding rooms).
______ Include your name and period on your paper.
