Course Description
This course is designed to teach basic drafting skills and fundamental concepts of architectural drafting and design. Students will learn architectural drafting through the use of the Chief Architect software. Students will utilize decision-making skills and creativity to design and draft a residential house plan.This class is designed for students to learn both a high-powered computer architectural program and learn basic fundamentals of design. Through the use of demonstration, textbooks and class lecture students will produce a residential house plan with working drawings. Student’s progress will be evaluated based on class participation quiz and test grades, book assignments and articles.

Unit 6: The Construction ProcessStudents will understand the construction process and materials used in building a residential structure. Students will identify structural components of a house. 6A - Stairs. 6B-Roof Designs. 6C Fireplaces. 6D Decks.
Unit 7: Green BuildingStudents will understand green building guidelines, concepts and processes.
Unit 8: An Architects InfluenceStudents will understand the varying style of architects.
Unit 9: Elevation DrawingsStudents will understand how to create and read elevation drawings.
Unit 10: Model Construction and PresentationStudents will understand the process of presenting house designs to a client.
Unit 10: Lighting is ArtStudents will understand the use of lighting in houses as function and as art.
Unit 11: The Electrical PlanStudents will understand electrical plans and how they are used in building.
Unit 12: Commercial Construction/DesignStudents will understand differences between residential and commercial structures.
