Yogasana - A Pathway to Inner Peace
While yogasana practice is just one aspect of the eight limbs of yoga, it is an important one.
The physical body is very accessible to all of us. We can see it, feel it, touch it, stretch it, bend it, and twist it—unlike our pranic (vital energy) body or our mind, which are less tangible.
At the same time, body, breath, and mind are not separate from one another.
They are interconnected parts of the same whole being, and we can use each of these three to influence the other two.
Of the three, the body is often the easiest to work with because it is the most accessible.
Through different physical postures, we can open energy pathways, release blockages, build strength, develop flexibility, increase bone density, detox the body naturally, and support the healthy functioning of internal organs.
At the same time, we cultivate mental clarity, improve balance, deepen the breath, break our daily movement and thought patterns, increase our comfort with discomfort, synchronize our bodily rhythms with nature, and activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is a natural mechanism for stress relief.
Yogasana practice may seem primarily muscular in nature, but its effects can extend much deeper—stretching us at the vascular level, relaxing us at the cellular level, reprogramming us at the mental level, rebalancing us at the emotional level, restructuring us at the intellectual level, and rejuvenating us at the spiritual level.
A long-held yogasana helps us stabilize the body, slow down the breath, and silence the mind.
It is the embodiment of yoga philosophy.
As we build a consistent yogasana practice over a long period of time with respect for the practice, we may also experience the deeper dimensions of yoga—bowing down to Mother Earth in gratitude, awakening the inner sun, gaining new perspectives, becoming more accommodating of others’ viewpoints, being more receptive to universal consciousness, restoring emotional equilibrium, realizing the peace within, and feeling a sense of oneness with everyone and everything around us.
Happy National Yoga Month and Happy International Day of Peace! ❤️🧘♀️☮️
May our yoga practice help us cultivate our inner peace, harmony with others, and a deeper sense of oneness with all.
