Zhang Wen - 張溫*

Zhang Wen, styled Huishu, was from Wu, Wu Commandery. His father, [Zhang] Yun, was not concerned over money and was a famous scholar, and his reputation was eminent in his province and commandery. He served as a Staff to the Eastern Department for Sun Quan, but died. When [Zhang] Wen was young, he cultivated his moral principles. He in appearance was unique and majestic. [Sun] Quan heard about him, and so asked his Excellencies and Ministers, "Whom does [Zhang] Wen currently compare?" The Minister of Finance; Liu Ji said, "He and Quan Cong are alike." The Minister of Ceremonies; Gu Yong said, "[Liu] Ji does not fully know him as a person. [Zhang] Wen currently has no similar persons." [Sun] Quan said, "If so, Zhang Yun has not died!" [Zhang Wen] was summoned and arrived at court to meet [Sun Quan]. He had eloquent rhetorical responses, and thus observers were very awed. [Sun] Quan changed his expression and [treated him with] more respect. When he finished and left, Zhang Zhao held his hands and said, "I wish to entrust my desires to you. You should understand them." He was conferred as Consulting Gentleman, Secretariat of the Nominating Department, then moved to Grand Tutor to the Crown Prince. He received utmost trust and respect.
