Lü Bu - 呂布

Lü Bu, styled Fengxian, was from Jiuyuan, Wuyuan Commandery. His valiance and strength he provided to Bing Province. When Inspector Ding Yuan served as (qiduwei) and guarded Henei, he made [Lü] Bu a registrar and often treated him closely and specially. When the (Ling) Emperor died, [Ding] Yuan led troops to Luoyang.[1] He and He Jin plotted to execute many of the Yellow Gates and he was made Wielder of the Golden Maces. When [He] Jin was defeated, Dong Zhuo entered the capital, and then caused chaos. He wanted to kill [Ding] Yuan to absorb his troops. [Dong] Zhuo, because of [Lü] Bu's trust with [Ding] Yuan, enticed [Lü] Bu to kill [Ding] Yuan. [Lü] Bu beheaded Yuan and showed his head to [Dong] Zhuo, and [Dong] Zhuo made [Lü] Bu the Commandant of Cavalry, greatly loving and trusting him. They swore an oath to be like father and son.

呂布字奉先,五原郡九原人也。以驍武給并州。刺史丁原為騎都尉,屯河內,以布為主簿,大見親待。靈帝崩,原將兵詣洛陽。〔一〕與何進謀誅諸黃門,拜執金吾。進敗,董卓入京都,將為亂,欲殺原,并其兵衆。卓以布見信於原,誘布令殺原。布斬原首詣卓,卓以布為騎都尉,甚愛信之,誓為父子。

〔一〕The Records of Famed Heroes state: [Ding] Yuan was styled Jianyang. He originally came from a poor family, and by nature he was rough and unthorough, but had strength and courage, and was good at riding and shooting. He served as an official of Nan County, and in accepting did not resign even in difficulty. When there was an emergeny, he chased after bandits and invaders, and was at the front. As he could analyze books, he was made a scholar when he was young.
