Commentary: The <i>Shiji</i> and Book of Han wrote of Chaoxian and the Two Yues, and the Eastern Capital recorded the Xiqiang. During the era of Wei, the Xiongnu gradually declined and again having the Wuwan and Xianbei.[1] Regarding to the Eastern Barbarians, their interpreters timely communicated, and they described by following our matters. And how oft this was!

〔一〕<i>The Summary of Wei's</i> Biography of Western Peoples states: The Di people have Kings and came long ago. From when the Han established Yi Province, created Wudu Commandery, and expelled these type of people, they have dispersed and hid within mountains and valleys. Some are at Fulu, and some are at Qian and Long, being close. These sort are not of one [kind]. They claim to be Panhu's descendants, but some are called the Green Di, some are called the White Di, and some are called the Python Di. Generally, these worms and their like are located within the Central Empire, and we, by their color of clothing, call them such.
