Zhuge Liang - 諸葛亮

Zhuge Liang, styled Kongming, was from Yangdu, Langya, and a descendant of the Han Colonel who Directs Retainers; Zhuge Feng. His father [Zhuge] Gui, styled Jungong, was at the end of the Han the Deputy of Taishan Commandery. [Zhuge] Liang was orphaned early. His cousin-uncle, [Zhuge] Xuan, was appointed by Yuan Shu to become Grand Administrator of Yuzhang, and [Zhuge] Xuan led [Zhuge] Liang and the younger brother of [Zhuge] Liang, [Zhuge] Jun, when he went to assume office. At the time, the Han court picked Zhu Hao to replace [Zhuge] Xuan. [Zhuge] Xuan had long been friendly with the Governor of Jing Province; Liu Biao, so they went to join him.[1]  When [Zhuge] Xuan died, [Zhuge] Liang personally plowed fields, and enjoyed reciting the Liangfuyin*.[2]

諸葛亮字孔明，琅邪陽都人也。漢司隷校尉諸葛豐後也。父珪，字君貢，漢末為太山郡丞。亮早孤，從父玄為袁術所署豫章太守，玄將亮及亮弟均之官。會漢朝更選朱皓代玄。玄素與荊州牧劉表有舊，往依之。〔一〕玄卒，亮躬耕隴畒，好為梁父吟。〔二〕

〔一〕The Chronicles of Emperor Xian state: Early on, the Grand Administrator of Yuzhang; Zhou Shu fell ill and died, so Liu Biao petitioned Zhuge Xuan to be Grand Administrator of Yuzhang, governing at Nanchang. When the Han dynasty heard of Zhou Shu's death, they sent Zhu Hao to replace [Zhuge] Xuan. [Zhu] Hao requested troops from the Inspector of Yang Province; Liu Yao to attack [Zhuge] Xuan, and [Zhuge] Xuan retreated to garrison at Xicheng, while [Zhu] Hao entered Nanchang. In the 1st month of the 2nd year of the Jian'an era, the people of Xicheng revolted, killed [Zhuge] Xuan, and sent his head to [Liu] Yao. 

〔一〕《獻帝春秋》曰：初，豫章太守周術病卒，劉表上諸葛玄為豫章太守，治南昌。漢朝聞周術死，遣朱皓代玄。皓從揚州刺史劉繇求兵擊玄，玄退屯西城，皓入南昌。建安二年正月，西城民反，殺玄，送首詣繇。

〔二〕The Chronicles of Han to Jin states: [Zhuge] Liang resided in Deng County, Nanyang, which was 20 li west of Xiangyang City, and it was called Longzhong.
