Artwork Description: Aristides Dallas emphasizes that “the scope of the project is to camouflage within the landscape while maintaining a dynamic presence of itself”. In between the stones and air lies the Lap Pool House inspired by the landscape of Tinos, Greece (Iype, J., 2021). The geomorphology of Tinos is set by its lithology and tectonic movements, however what characterizes the island is its very humid climate and prominent N & NE winds (Λειβαδίτης, Γ., & Αλεξουλη-Λειβαδιτη, 2001). Having 3 mountains, Mt. Tsiknias, Mesovouni, and Prasa, the island is mostly made out of slopes of 15-45 degrees, forcing architects to interact with the topography. Tinos is also part of the Cyclades Blueschist Belt, meaning that metamorphic rocks are prominent in the area, unit schist is the one most found in our study area (Spry et al., 2006). This geometric house captures its natural surroundings allowing it to camouflage and connect the man made to the natural (Iype, J., 2021). The Lap Pool House gathers all the colors surrounding it and implementing in the materials it is made out of. The pool naturally extends out to the Aegean Sea as Tinos is surrounded by it. The structure redefines rock formations seamlessly incorporating hues of whites, grays, and small touches of green with plants. The minimalistic residence creates an impactful dialogue between the manmade and nature’s elements.

Artist's Bio: Architecture enthusiasts building precise models since 2023!
Artist's statement: Having the opportunity to be part of Building Science ARCH 508 course at SAPL gave us a new perspective on buildings and a deeper understanding on concrete buildings. Inspired by the strength yet smoothness of the material we worked with cardboard and plaster to recreate a concrete house.
