Artwork Description: Something little can go so far. When we design our cities, the little details can go a long way. We need to consider these are places that memories are made. Our decisions have the power to transform people’s lives. To me, this is the beauty of planning. (Design) 

Artist's Bio:  Ian Hernandez, a Calgary resident of four years, finds inspiration in the diverse communities that shape western Canada’s landscape. Ian is a dedicated student at the University of Calgary studying Urban Studies, is deeply committed to enhancing community life in Calgary. Through his involvement in numerous projects across the city, Ian has become a catalyst for encouraging community members to actively engage with their surroundings. With a focus on small-scale initiatives, Ian's work aims to breathe new life into communities, fostering a sense of vitality and connection among residents. 

Artist's statement: A passionate advocate for community engagement, Ian's artistic endeavors are centered around building projects that seamlessly integrate with the distinct character of each community. From vibrant murals to interactive installations, Ian's work reflects his deep appreciation for place as a catalyst for relationship building. At the heart of his creations lies a simple yet profound belief: that the true essence of any space lies in its ability to foster connections and bring people together.
