The first city to fall during the Donbas Offensive, which Russia declared on April 18, was Kreminna.

Battle
The crucial Kreminna-Torske route was effectively blocked by Ukrainian forces on the night of September 27–28 after they crossed the Siverskyi Donets River in Dronivka, stormed the Siverskyi Donets Forest Park, and crossed the river again.
[5] After suffering significant losses in the second battle for the town while stationed in Lyman, the 20th Combined Arms Army and the BARS-13 detachment's remaining soldiers relocated to Kreminna.

Russian defenses in Kreminna came under heavy fire from Ukrainian soldiers on October 2 as they advanced as far as the R-66 motorway. The next day, despite being repelled by Russian forces, Ukrainian troops were able to block a section of the roadway between Chervonopopivka and Pishchane. Russian forces had mined every route between Kreminna and Svatove to halt Ukrainian advances. Due to the muddy ground in November, there were few territorial changes, but violent fighting continued every day. Over the course of November, newly mobilized Russian conscripts filled a sizable portion of the Russian military line in the northern Luhansk oblast. [9] [10] Early in December, Ukrainian forces overran Russian defenses in the area of Chervonopopivka. The majority of the combat took place to the west of the R-66 road that connects Kreminna and Svatove. [11]
