Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022
For possession of the city of Irpin, the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 included the Kyiv attack, which included the Battle of Irpin. The participants in the battle were ground forces from Ukraine and Russia. During the conflict, which lasted from 27 February to 28 March 2022, Ukrainian forces managed to retake the city. [11] [12] The conflict was a component of a wider strategy to encircle Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital. The Ukrainian armed forces repelled the Russian advance in the western suburbs of the capital, at Irpin, Bucha, and Hostomel. [13] [14] [15] The Kyiv Oblast State Administration identified Irpin as one of the region's most hazardous locations. [16] Urban fighting was particularly fierce during the battle. [17] [18]
