Teaching place value

This is a great introduction into tenths and hundredths. After just one session, all of the children in my class were able to say that 0.9 = 9 tenths and so on. We used the concrete resources a lot to help them understand the place value chart, and this work will be built on continually but especially when we get further into multiplying and dividing by 10/100.

A simple warm up!

A wonderful visual to help mainly my brain to understand how 1 divided by 0.1 is 10! :D

Dividing by 0.1 is the same as multiplying by 10. This is because there are 10 tenths in a whole. Dividing by 0.01 is the same as multiplying by 100. This is because 0.01 is one hundredth and there are a hundred hundredths in a whole.
