Rounding

We talk about using rounding in daily life first and why it's useful. I then start with rounding to the nearest 10 with tens numbers, using number lines to show the two tens numbers either side.

Once children are comfortable with this concept, we look at rounding to the nearest 10 using hundreds and thousands numbers.

The children who showed they were secure with the concept then moved on to the sheets below, where all the questions lined to other concepts I had taught so far, such as Roman Numerals and the 2x table. I also used lengths and times. I thought it was important to include estimation questions as this is a key skill children can use rounding for.
