Non-unit equivalent fractions

I gave the children a problem on the board to prove (using Dienes cubes) how 2/5 is the same as 8/20.

This is what one very creative group of children came up with completely independently!!

We then looked at more examples:

I love the way the child above used the squared whiteboard to show her answer.

The above example shows how 4/6 was the same as 20/30

The examples provided a great discussion about where to put the whole number and how to split the bar below. It was then a great use of times table knowledge and associative division facts.
