"I remember this. My parents would drive from Medford to Coeur d' Alene when I was a little girl. My Mom hated the old highway and curvy road. We always stopped there."

"Torpedo Backed cars like that were all the rage in the late 40s, with the last models produced being the 51 Chevy. A lot of these massive, thick steel bodied cars only had straight 6's. To this day I miss cars with running boards."

"That's the Dinty's I remember. On our annual migration to the deer hunting grounds of Grant County, via Hermiston, we would stop at the cafe for lunch. I remember the miniature bandstand they had elevated at the east end of the dining area. The figures all moved with whatever musical number somebody had punched in to the jukebox. It fascinated the pre-adolescent me to no end."

Associated Press/The Dalles Chronicle: Fire destroys home, former hotel in Biggs Junction
Shawn Payne, Sherman County Emergency Services Director, said a state fire marshal's investigation has determined the former hotel fire was human caused but unintentional, possibly started by a cigarette.
…
The house that burned Wednesday in Biggs Junction was home to two adults and as many as five dogs, according to the Red Cross. Disaster volunteers from the Red Cross provided the victims with food, lodging, clothing, shoes and recovery information.
The elderly couple lost their home, Payne said. They were unable to capture all of the dogs. One was scared and couldn’t be caught, she explained.
The burned home was well away from the former motel, where the fire started in a railroad tie close to the old Dinty’s Motel.
Also burned in the fire, which started at 12:50 p.m., was an old antique store and former hotel.

"1 tire shop, 1 junkyard and 1 converted church are all that remains. And the 97 remnant is covered in 20 feet of landfill."
