1300 feet, 117.2, east end of Frontage Road
The Rufus barriers are passable. They've moved one of the jersey barriers 90-deg. and you can drive as far as we used to.
I have to go back and explore a brand new theory. To either discover a new roadway or debunk it at Rufus...
The east end of the drivable section looks a bit like Mad Max out there with some permanent campers... I don't know how friendly they are, so be warned! (Don't get me wrong, they may be very friendly, I just do not know.)
"If I'm understanding things correctly, this is where the 1950s highway splits from the 1920s highway."
A very familiar scene to me this Spring and early-Summer! Again, I believe it's the earliest road that veers right and the 'Improved Road' veering off to the left...presumably during the final upgrades to 4-lane status.
"If the 50s highway is on the left, it ends quite soon after this point. It was destroyed when the freeway was built."
"The right fork continues into a patch of trees."
"It ends soon too, like the other fork absorbed by the freeway."
And there it is! The width of pavement here makes me re-think, 'was this 1926 or 1952??' I'll pack a measuring tape too, next trip.
Considering the fragment on the next page, I am sticking with 1952 in the above photo...
