After Lang Canyon, I started wondering... did US 30 just follow what is now the rail grade all the way into Arlington? This is the only real possible place I've found where it might climb up to where the current freeway grade is, though if it dropped lower into what is now Lake Umatilla, that might not be as noticeable. I've never really considered this grade as a CRH possibility before, but I am pretty sure the highway didn't follow the current rail grade all the way into town. (Though, looking at the first photo on the Arlington page, it very well may have! The second photo, though, shows how much of the original cliff has been removed. The CRH there is clearly blasted away forever.)
