Farooq Alihassan is currently a Licensed Associate Counselor and is a graduate with a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from New Jersey City University. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers University in Psychology and has worked within the mental health field as a counselor and educator with both culturally and socioeconomically diverse populations. With regards to his Philosophy and practice, it draws heavily from Liberation Psychology and anti-oppression, and grounded in social justice. His approach has a strong focus on critical thinking and educating on existing paradigms so that communities and individuals can critique and build foundations that are for the betterment of society, which is the primary focus of his post graduate studies and education. Farooq has a strong focus on family systems/dynamics and has a holistic approach to his practice. He is nonjudgmental and has a strong awareness than an individual’s identity has various dimensions are often connected to how they are perceived in the world.
